Because you clicked on the title of this article, and are reading it now, you likely have a weight problem of some sort. Well, welcome to the most popular club in America today. Two thirds of American adults are overweight, or clinically obese.
And it’s not just the fat that’s the problem. It’s all the other junk that comes with it, from high blood pressure, to cholesterol, and all kinds of other life-shortening problems.
So why are we so fat? Were Americans always fat or is it just a recent thing? If you took a look back a hundred years or so, you’d notice that very few people were fat back then. What was different?
In the old days, most people weren’t lucky enough to sit at a desk all day. Work meant physical labor. Eight hours a day, five days a week.
Those of us that go to the gym, even several times a week, don’t work out nearly as hard as people used to do for a living. We just don’t get the exercise that people did in the old days.
Another reason, and this is much more difficult to overcome, is that our diet has changed dramatically. Most food people ate before was natural, locally grown, and preservative free.
Today, most of the food we eat is mass produced, and filled with chemicals and preservatives. This is not good for our bodies.
The biggest problem with this is that it can be darn near impossible to find something to eat that isn’t laced with chemicals. Even if you do find a natural grocer with locally grown, preservative free food, you’d have to take out a loan to afford it.
Restaurant food, fast food, and even most of the foods you buy at your local supermarket are filled with chemicals and junk that is just not healthy. And this can cause all kinds of problems to your digestive system.
And these foods are designed this way not for our benefit, but for the benefit of the corporations and big companies that make billions of dollars every year.
The biggest scandal is that there are companies and corporations that are literally making billions and billions of dollars every year on food that makes us, and keeps us fat.
But when you figure out how to eat healthy, and get a little bit of exercise, you can start to take your life back, little by little. It may take a little motivation and willpower, but it’s your life. It’s important.
