Organic foods are a very popular trend these days. They are supposed to be very healthy and good for you. The only area that is not totally understood is regarding meat.
Organic food is plain and simply to be food that is totally natural with no additives or pesticides. This is food grown naturally from the earth and to be trusted to be safe for your family.
Organic produce seems to be a simpler task than organic meats. Why is that the case?
Some meats such as wild fish are thought to be organic. The USDA confirms this. The fish, however, still has a very good chance of containing mercury or other chemicals that it absorbed in nature.
There is always going to be an organization that is aware of the treatment of animals even if they are destined to be eaten. This is a good thing and organic foods are no different. It is very important that we know how these animals are looked after.
Guidelines in this area are a very good thing and very helpful. We want to know that we as well as the animals are not ingesting harmful hormones and chemicals. It is also very good to know how these animals are treated regardless of what their fate is to be.
If you have to choose between organic and non organic, always go for the organic food. There are other options available to look for as well. The RSPCA labels products that insure that the animals were carefully taken care of during their life. Another label to look for is one that says the food is biodynamic. This is a step above even organic foods.
The issue of organic foods has been ‘skated around’ for long enough. If we as consumers want organic food we should be able to fully trust that we are getting it if that is what we want.
