One of today’s hottest new workouts is Turbo Fire by Chalene Johnson, fitness guru and creator of Turbo Jam and ChaLEAN Extreme, and Beachbody, one of the creators of P90X. Turbo Fire is a mega intense cardio workout focused on the HIIT system. HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training and is made up of combining intense, short bursts of exercise with brief rest periods.
The first video tells you all about the workout and how it works. You should really watch it to get some advice on the best way to use the workout for maximum effectiveness. Basically, as you will find out from any Turbo Fire review, this workout consists of 10 different workout videos and the instructional video. Many of the different workout videos contain what are called fire drills. A fire drill is a high intensity interval training section of the video. These typically last from 30 seconds to one minute and call for you to work out at your highest possible intensity.
This workout dvd is different from others. Chalene conducts the turbo fire workout in a fitness class setting so you feel like you are really in the class. The camera pans around the room instead of staying in one spot so you may see people in front of you or off to the side. You always have a great view of TurboFire creator, Chalene Johnson performing the exercises. She is on a great looking turbofire themed stage set higher than the class. The best part about this class is that you can do it in the comfort of your home and avoid driving to the gym to fight for the best spot in turbo fire class!
Chalene starts the turbofire HIIT workout with a full body warmup that lasts about 3 minutes. One of the turbofire cast members is a modifier that is easy to follow if you need a low impact TURBO FIRE workout. Chalene incorporates “Fire Drills” into the workout. This workout included 3 drills repeated 3 times. First, she shows you what each drill looks like and then the class does the drill together at normal speed and intensity.After you learn the turbofire drill, Chalene leads you through a jump rope move until the siren goes off. A timer appears in the lower left of the screen with a burning fire around it! This is the Fire Drill! It’s very exhilarating. For 34 seconds, you do the turbo fire drill as fast and intense as you can go! It was very challenging! When the fire drill is over, you walk in place to keep moving for 30 seconds to recover.
Although the workout is pretty intense, as we mentioned in this Turbo Fire review, even beginners can use this workout. Just workout at the intensity level that you can handle until you are up to working out at the level of the more advanced exercisers shown on the video. There is a beginner option for each video that has the instructor showing you one-on-one how to do each exercise so that you can learn how to do them properly. This will get you off to a great start.
