<p>Bread &#8211; Look for the word &#8220;Whole&#8221; on the label.  You want whole grain or whole wheat.  Do not accept &#8220;Enriched grain&#8221; or &#8220;multigrain&#8221; on the label.  These typically contain white flour as their main ingredient.|If the label only says &#8220;Enriched grain&#8221; or &#8220;multigrain&#8221; then it usually contains plain white flour as the main ingredient and this is one ingredient you want to avoid.</p>
<p>Do not be fooled by that word &#8220;Grain&#8221; on the label, either.  I used to work in a bakery where we made our bread from scratch.  The most well-liked bread we sold was a &#8220;multi-grain&#8221; bread.  Everybody insisted it was the healthiest bread we had and folks really got angry if we ran out.  What were they supposed to eat?!  We couldn&#8217;t expect them to buy WHITE bread!  It&#8217;s so unhealthy!  Well, you know what?  That &#8220;Multi-grain&#8221; bread was made with good, old-fashioned, right out of the bag, enriched white flour.  The most worthless food product you can eat.  But because that label said &#8220;Multi-Grain&#8221; everyone thought it was some kind of health food.  And I could never convince them otherwise.</p>
<p>Cereal &#8211; You&#8217;re looking for the same thing here &#8211; the first ingredient ought to be whole grain.  Look for cereal that has around 2.5 grams of fat and is either low in sugar or has no sugar added.  If you prefer your cereal sweetened, try adding a banana or some frozen blueberries or strawberries.</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t be fooled by the word &#8220;Granola&#8221;.  Granola is NOT a health food at all.  It&#8217;s a nice snack.  And when it first came out, it was all natural.  However these days granola usually has sugar of high fructose corn syrup (one of the WORST things you can eat when you are trying to lose stomach weight!).  Some granolas even have chocolate chips or M&amp;Ms in them.  But because it says &#8220;Granola&#8221; , people think it&#8217;s healthy.</p>
<p>Meats &#8211; When choosing beef, Select cuts are  leaner than Choice cuts.  If you do not see any labeled &#8220;Select&#8221; ask your butcher if there&#8217;s any available.  When you are buying pork, search for loin or round cuts &#8211; they are leaner.  Choose meats that have had most of the fat removed.  And preparing your meats by grilling, baking, broiling or roasting is much, much better for your weight loss plan than frying.  Whenever you recipe involves chicken or beef, especially if it&#8217;s ground beef that is loaded with fat, replace it with turkey if possible.  Your family probably won&#8217;t even notice the difference.</p>
<p>Fruits &#8211; Fresh, raw, organic fruit is the best.  Organic foods haven&#8217;t been exposed to any pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers.  These chemicals will build up as powerful toxins in your body and do more harm then good.  If organic is not available, always be certain to clean your fruit before you eat it. If you are going to diet off five pounds which is seventeen thousand five hundred calories, you have to burn 3500 more calories than you eat for the entire week, or go totally without food PLUS burn 3500 calories in one week. That just won&#8217;t work. You can&#8217;t lose five pounds in one week by dieting. You have to have some food to stay alive.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s what will happen when you stop eating: Your body recognizes that there is no food and goes into hibernation mode. This is not a conscious decision, it&#8217;s involuntary, like your heartbeat or breathing. The first thing it does is gives up water, and that means protein, which is 75% water, and constitutes lean muscle mass. After it depletes your water, it will start to burn carbohydrates, which causes you to store fat. In other words, you will start to gain weight. This is a metabolism thing, where your body reacts by slowing down the burn rate, and any food you take in is immediately sent to the fat storage unit. You have to change your metabolism or you won&#8217;t lose weight, you&#8217;ll put more on.</p>
<p>You have to control the burn rate, not the caloric intake. I mentioned body builders a minute ago. They eat like they will never have another meal. For all the food they take in, they should weight 400 pounds, but they don&#8217;t. They have learned to speed up their metabolism, so what they eat is going into muscle building, not fat storing.</p>
<p>One thing is for sure: Body Builders don&#8217;t eat a lot of Big Macs and Whoppers. They have a totally different diet, and couple with some simple exercises, they control their metabolisms. If you like that sort of look, they are usually pretty hot, too. They eat like they will never have another meal. For all the food they take in, they should weight 400 pounds, but they don&#8217;t.
