Fat Burning Foods: Is Fruit Juice Really Good For Me?

I could probably write several pages about processed and unprocessed sugars, natural and unnatural sweeteners. But what I'd like to talk to you about instead is how a natural, seemingly healthy product can actually be anything but healthy.

I could probably write several pages about processed and unprocessed sugars, natural and unnatural sweeteners. But what I’d like to talk to you about instead is how a natural, seemingly healthy product can actually be anything but healthy.

In fact, I’m going to show you how, in the wrong hands, fat burning foods can be turned into a waistline-expanding, weight-gaining nightmare! Are you ready for this…

I’m going to use the example of fruit juice.

Natural, Unprocessed and Wholesome Foods Are King

Advertised as the perfect way to start every day, or the healthy option when you’re in a rush; fruit juice has definitely been branded a health food/ drink. You can even get several of your recommended fruit portions per day from one carton or bottle, with no added sugar! Hooray I hear you cheer, or should you be booing?

As natural as fruit juice sounds, it has actually been processed and altered. But this time it’s not about what has been added, but what has been taken away.

Fruit juice has had almost all of the fruit’s flesh and skin removed. So what? This is where all of the natural fiber is contained. Dietary fibre actually slows the body’s absorption of sugar. So without this your fruit juice is delivering a blood sugar spiking, hormonal fat storing sucker-punch.

And you might be getting 2 of your 5-a-day from that juice, but that doesn’t mean you’re getting the sugar from 2 pieces of fruit. More likely, you’re getting the juice, and sugar, from 10-12 pieces of fruit all at once! Not good for your waistline, I promise you.

Stick to eating organic, whole fruit for a healthy dose of natural sugar, antioxidants and fibre.

Raw Fruit All The Way

If you’ve been to my website before then you’ll know I’m always talking about avoiding processed sugars at all costs.

Take a closer look at the above, and notice how I’ve used the word “processed”. That because natural sugar is vital if you want to burn fat. But you must make sure you are getting it from an unprocessed source (remember raw fruit vs fruit juice).

Here’s a little tip to control your sugar cravings: eat a piece of fruit with every meal. I have an insanely sweet tooth and this tip works for me. Use fruit to spice up even the most boring meals. And you get a great energy boost (that’s non fattening) to boot!

Just remember to eat the whole fruit. The natural fiber is very important to slow sugar absorption.

Control Portion Size

Even though raw fruit is one of the very healthiest foods around, you still need to exercise a little common sense. Please don’t think that you can go and eat 12 portions of fruit all in one sitting. Remember that eating smaller meals more frequently is our goal. 1-2 pieces of fruit with every meal will keep our bodies in the fat burning zone.

TIP: The best way to keep yourself in the fat burning zone throughout the day is to eat a balanced meal at every opportunity. Try to include natural sugars, protein, essential fats and fibre at every opportunity.

Fat Burning Secret – Natural Foods Are Best

The overwhelming message of this article is that natural, wholesome, organic and unprocessed fruits are one of the true fat burning foods. Don’t fall for the marketing hype; fruit juice is definitely not a health food!
